Prescribed Title 3: In the production of knowledge, why is it that ideas are so often more alluring than facts? Discuss with reference to the natural sciences and one other area of knowledge.
What This Title Is Asking
Title 3 doesn't ask whether facts matter it takes that as given. Instead it asks why, in the actual process of producing knowledge, ideas so often capture more attention, more investment, and more belief than the facts themselves.
Note that this title uses "why" rather than "to what extent." That's an important distinction. You're not being asked to debate whether ideas are more alluring the title treats that as an observable reality. Your job is to explain the mechanisms behind it, and to examine what that means for how knowledge gets made.
The natural sciences are a mandatory AOK. Your second is your choice.

History and the arts can also work, but whichever you choose, make sure you can explain why the relationship between ideas and facts plays out differently there than in the natural sciences. That contrast is where the marks are.
Where Students Go Wrong
The most common mistake is turning this into a straightforward "ideas vs facts" debate, or arguing that allure is simply a form of bias to be corrected. The stronger move is to show that ideas do genuine epistemic work, they organise facts, direct research, and make knowledge portable, while also examining the risks when allure outpaces evidence. The title rewards nuance, not a verdict.
