- German ab initio
IB German ab initio is a Group 2 subject in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This language acquisition course is designed for beginner students with little or no prior knowledge of German, focusing on developing foundational communication skills through five core themes: Identities, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organization, and Sharing the Planet. Students explore German language and culture through authentic texts, audio materials, and interactive communication activities.
The course is available at Standard Level only (SL, 150 teaching hours), with first assessment in 2025.
Assessment consists of Paper 1 (productive writing skills: 1 hour, 25%), Paper 2 (receptive skills combining listening and reading: 1 hour 45 minutes, 50%), and Individual Oral Assessment (presentation and discussion based on visual stimuli: 15 minutes preparation plus 4-6 minutes assessment, 25%).
