How do I set up a classroom and add students?
Updated August 6, 2026
Create the class on the Classrooms page, then open its Members tab and choose Add members. Students can only join a classroom that sits on an active Classrooms Pro licence.
Create a classroom
- Open the Classrooms page and choose Create classroom.
- If you teach on more than one school licence, pick the right one under School.
- Pick the subject the class is for. The name at the top of the dialog updates to match the subject you pick.
- To rename the class, select the pencil next to that name and type your own, for example Set 1, Biology HL.
- Choose Create classroom.
You become the teacher of the class automatically. Classrooms are part of the website only. There is no classroom section in the mobile app, so set the class up in a web browser.
Open my classroomsAdd students
Open the classroom, go to the Members tab and choose Add members. Two tabs appear.
School roster lists the students already on your school licence, and only the students, not other teachers or admins. Search for them, tick the ones you want and choose Add selected students. They are in the class right away, with nothing to accept.
Invite by email covers anyone the roster does not already hold. Type one address per row and set the role beside it to Student, Teacher or Admin, then choose Invite all. Add another gives you a blank row. Upload CSV pulls every address out of a CSV file and gives each one its own row, always set to Student, so change any role that should be different before you send.
What happens to each address
The result depends on whether that address already has a RevisionDojo account.
- No account yet. They are emailed an invite and show as pending until they open it. Accepting the invite also puts them on your school licence.
- An account already on your school licence. They are added to the class straight away and counted in the Added message. They still get the email, but the link only tells them they are already a member.
- An account that is not on your school licence. Nothing is sent. You get an error saying that address does not currently have Classrooms Pro access.
The Invites tab, next to All members, lists every invite on the class and whether it is pending or accepted. To cancel one that is still pending, open Actions on its row and choose Revoke. There is no resend, so to reach a different address, revoke the invite and send a new one.
The shared invite link
For a link you can post in a class group, open Invite by email, turn on Invite link and choose Copy link. It is not tied to any address, and everyone who uses it joins as a student, whatever roles are set on the email rows underneath.
The link only works for accounts that are already on a school licence with Classrooms Pro. A student who is not on one yet is turned away, and the way to put them on it is an email invite. So send email invites first and use the link for students your school has already set up.
Turning the switch off stops the link working. Turning it back on creates a new link, so the old one stays dead.
Every route needs a school licence
Students can only be added to a classroom that is attached to an active Classrooms Pro school licence. Without one you can still create a classroom and use the content yourself, but the button on the Members tab reads Invite locked and does nothing, so there is no way to open the roster, send an invite or switch a link on. The rows you can see on the All members and Invites tabs in that state are a locked preview, not real people you have invited.
Any student who opens an invite to a classroom with no licence is told the class is not currently accepting new students.
School licences are arranged on a call with our schools team rather than bought from the pricing page.
If a student who already has an account is refused with a message about Classrooms Pro access, their account is not on your licence. Use the Contact support button at the bottom of this page so we can check their seat.
