Proper time is the time interval between two events measured in the frame where both events occur at the same position. Proper length is the length of an object measured in the frame where the object is at rest. This is HL-only content from A.5 Galilean and special relativity.
The Reasoning
Both quantities are defined by a special measurement condition, but they refer to different physical measurements.
| Quantity | Defining condition | Relationship to other frames |
|---|---|---|
| Proper time, | The two events occur at the same position, so one clock can record both events | Other inertial frames measure a longer interval: |
