IB Results Day: What to Expect and What to Do Next
IB Results Day is one of the most emotionally charged moments of the Diploma Programme. After two years of coursework, assessments, and exams, this is the day your official results are released. Whether you are confident, anxious, or unsure what to expect, knowing how the day works—and how to respond—can make a significant difference.
This guide explains what IB Results Day involves, how to prepare, what to do once you receive your results, and how to handle different outcomes calmly and strategically.
What Is IB Results Day?
IB Results Day is when the International Baccalaureate releases final, official scores for Diploma Programme candidates.
- May session: Results released on 5 July
- November session: Results released on 2 January
Your results include:
- Grades for each of your six subjects (1–7)
- Extended Essay (EE) grade
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) grade
- Core points from EE and TOK (0–3)
- Total score out of 45
- CAS completion status (pass/fail requirement)
Results are accessed through the IB candidate portal (IBIS) using your personal login details.
How to Prepare Before Results Day
1. Make Sure You Can Log In
Confirm your IBIS username and password in advance. If you do not have them or have forgotten them, contact your IB coordinator before results day.
2. Set Realistic Expectations
Predicted grades are estimates, not guarantees. Results may be higher, lower, or exactly the same. Mentally preparing for multiple outcomes reduces shock and stress.
