Overview: The Reflective Project in the IB Career-related Programme (CP)
The Reflective Project is a mandatory core component of the IB Career-related Programme (CP), alongside Personal & Professional Skills, Service Learning, and Language Development. It is a teacher-assessed and IB-moderated ethical inquiry completed toward the end of the CP, with an expected commitment of around 50 hours.
The project is overseen and moderated by the International Baccalaureate, ensuring consistent global standards.
Purpose and Educational Aims
The Reflective Project asks students to identify, explore, and evaluate an ethical dilemma that emerges from their career-related study. The focus is not abstract ethics, but real, applied issues connected to professional contexts.
Through the process, students develop:
- Advanced research and inquiry skills
- Critical and creative thinking
- Ethical awareness and personal responsibility
- Clear academic and non-academic communication
The project is designed to bring together learning from across the CP and connect it meaningfully to real-world challenges.
Format and Submission Options
Students choose one of two approved formats, both of which must fully address the assessment criteria:
Option 1: Extended Essay Format
A single written essay of up to 3,000 words. Reflection is recorded separately in the Reflections on Planning and Progress Form (RPPF).
