Overview of the IB Diploma Programme (DP)
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous two-year curriculum for students aged 16–19. It balances academic challenge, research, and real-world engagement, preparing students for university and beyond.
Core Structure and Subject Groups
Every IB student takes six subjects from these categories:
- Language and Literature
- Language Acquisition
- Individuals and Societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The Arts (or a second subject from groups 1–4)
SL vs HL Courses
- Standard Level (SL): ~150 teaching hours
- Higher Level (HL): ~240 teaching hours
Students take 3 HL and 3 SL subjects, though some opt for 4 HL.
IB Core Components
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – a philosophical course exploring the nature of knowledge.
- Extended Essay (EE) – a 4,000-word research paper.
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – experiential learning through non-academic activities.
