An opening position can be qualified, rejected or defended after evaluation. Make that development visible, rather than assuming that every essay must change its initial claim.
An operational definition specifies how a concept will be recognised or measured. A working definition can instead clarify how you use a term in the argument. Choose the kind of clarification the discussion needs.
If your opening contains a definition, ask what would become unclear without it. Shorten or remove wording that does no work; keep clarification the reader needs.
As a revision exercise, write what your argument establishes and what evidence could challenge it. Decide how much of each the ending needs; neither is a compulsory sentence pattern.
Compare the work done by your first and last paragraphs with their length. Cut repetition before removing reasoning or context that the reader needs.
Read the first and last paragraphs together. Check whether the ending answers the issue raised at the start, whether any change of position is explained, and whether both address the exact title.
