This title is easy to mishandle because it begins with a premise that sounds stronger than it really is: intuition "lacks evidence." If that phrase is accepted too quickly, intuition becomes indistinguishable from blind guessing. Yet that is not how intuition usually functions in serious knowledge production. Intuition often lacks explicit, formal, or publicly demonstrable evidence, but it may still draw on absorbed experience, tacit pattern recognition, and long exposure to a field. The title therefore asks for a careful distinction. It is not asking why irrational leaps are somehow useful. It is asking why forms of judgment that cannot yet be fully justified can still be epistemically valuable.
I will argue that intuition is valuable because it helps knowers move under uncertainty. It directs attention, generates conjectures, and gives inquiry a provisional sense of where to look before proof or evidence has fully caught up. In mathematics, this is especially important because discovery often begins with a felt pattern, an elegant structure, or a suspicion that a conjecture should be true before proof exists. However, intuition is not valuable because it can replace evidence. It is valuable because it can orient the production of knowledge before formal justification arrives. Its role is therefore catalytic rather than final.
