Contentment (zhi zu)
In Taoist ethics, contentment (zhi zu) literally means "knowing what is enough" and refers to the practice of recognising the sufficiency of what one already has, resisting the endless escalation of desire that Lao Tzu regards as the root cause of personal suffering, social conflict, and environmental destruction.
Pu
Pu (the uncarved block) is Lao Tzu's central metaphor for the state of natural simplicity and wholeness that precedes the imposition of social conventions and artificial desires, representing the ideal ethical condition in which a person lives in spontaneous harmony with the Tao, free from excessive knowledge, ambition, and material accumulation.
