What is a Web Page or Social Media Text?

Web pages and social media texts are digital texts designed for screen reading, combining written content with visual layout, hyperlinks, images, and interactive elements.
Social media texts use platform-specific conventions: hashtags, @mentions, character limits, emojis, captions, and engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments).
Web pages are structured for scanning rather than linear reading: navigation bars, buttons, headings, and visual hierarchy guide the user through content.
The boundary between content and marketing is often blurred: sponsored posts, branded content, and calls to action ("Sign up", "Donate now") embed persuasion within informational text.
The key analytical challenge is examining how digital design choices shape meaning and user behaviour: button placement, colour psychology, and algorithmic visibility all influence how the text is received.
