Ostarbeiter

German for "Eastern worker." A term used by the Nazi regime for forced labourers brought to Germany from occupied Eastern European territories, particularly the Soviet Union and Poland. Ostarbeiter were subjected to harsher conditions and lower rations than Western European workers.
