Governing Bodies
Governing Bodies
Organizations that establish and enforce rules and policies for specific jurisdictions or communities.
Organization of Governing Bodies
Governing bodies exist at various levels:
- Local: Focused on specific communities or regions.
- Regional: Govern larger areas within a country.
- National: Operate at the country level.
- Global: Transcend national borders to address international issues.
NGOs and NPOs
There are two most common types of organizations that govern independently of governments:
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
- Organizations that operate independently of any government agency.
- Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs)
- Organizations that operate for a shared goal rather than for profit.
- NPOs use their assets and earnings to fund their projects, pay their employees, and operate, but do not use their funds for the earnings of individuals.
- People think that NPOs must not earn money under any circumstance.
- This is a mistake, NPOs can earn and operate finances.
- However, the primary goal of their earnings is to reinvest back into their projects and goals.
An example of an organization that is both an NGO and an NPO is the International Baccalaureate Organization, that created the IBDP curriculum.
