The Knight's Revolt was an attempt to reclaim the imperial knights' fading status, seize church lands, and spread the Protestant Reformation.
The Knights’ Revolt (1522–1523)
The revolt was partly religious but also political and economic.
The revolt failed quickly; the princes crushed the knights.
The Peasants’ War (1524–1525)
Inspired by reform ideas (e.g., freedom in Christ) but also rooted in economic hardship, feudal burdens, and resentment of landlords.
The Twelve Articles (1525) called for fairer treatment, reduction of feudal dues, and local control over church appointments.
Luther condemned the revolt once it turned violent, urging princes to crush the rebels.
Peasants lost trust in Luther, who now appeared as an ally of the princes.
The Radical Reformation
Groups like the Anabaptists rejected infant baptism

Note
The Knights’ Revolt of 1522-1523 was a complex uprising that combined religious, political, and economic motivations. The knights, who were part of the lower nobility, felt threatened by the rising power of territorial princes and sought to restore their traditional privileges.
The revolt was inspired by Lutheran ideas but also aimed to restore the knights' political influence
Economic pressures, such as debt and loss of income, also played a significant role
Analogy
Think of the Knights’ Revolt as a group of middle managers in a company rebelling against upper management because they feel their authority and income are being threatened by new company policies.
Note
While the revolt had religious elements, it was primarily driven by the knights' desire to regain their lost status and privileges.
