Yalta Conference (1945)

The conference held at Yalta in Crimea in February 1945, attended by Roosevelt (USA), Churchill (Britain), and Stalin (USSR). The conference agreed on the occupation zones for post-war Germany, the establishment of the United Nations, and the holding of "free elections" in liberated European countries. The vague language on elections allowed both sides to claim the other had violated the agreements, contributing to the breakdown of the wartime alliance.
