Biocapacity
Biocapacity is the ability of biologically productive land and water to regenerate renewable resources and absorb wastes, especially carbon dioxide.
Ecological Footprint
The ecological footprint is a theoretical measurement of the amount of land and water a population (or an individual) requires to fulfil all resource needs and to sequester the carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels, under prevailing technology. It is measured in global hectares (gha).
Global hectare
A global hectare is a standardized hectare with world-average biological productivity, used to compare ecological footprints and biocapacity.
Water Footprint
The water footprint is the total volume of freshwater used to produce the goods and services consumed by a person or population, split into green (rainwater), blue (surface and groundwater) and grey (the volume needed to dilute pollution to water quality standards).
