Definition

Interview

A text structured as a conversation between an interviewer and subject, using questions and answers to reveal opinions, experiences, or information, with deliberate framing and selection of content.

Question Framing

Open questions: invite elaboration and narrative; signal the interviewer wants the interviewee to speak freely.
Closed questions: demand a specific, often yes/no answer; can be used to pin the interviewee down.
Leading questions: contain an embedded assumption that nudges the interviewee toward a particular answer, revealing the interviewer's editorial stance.
Loaded questions: contain an assumption the interviewee must either accept or challenge before they can answer.
Question framing reveals the interviewer's agenda: whether they seek controversy, accountability, access, or testimony tells you what the publication wants from the exchange.
