Overarching inquiry question: To what extent did changing expectations about domesticity cause the emergence of feminist protest in the USA?

Women were entering paid employment in growing numbers, yet public policy and workplace practice continued to assume that their principal responsibilities were in the home. The commission called for equal opportunity while also recommending services that would help women combine employment and family responsibilities.
Source B: Adapted from Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII.
Employers covered by federal law could not discriminate in hiring, dismissal, compensation or other conditions of employment because of race, colour, religion, sex or national origin. The inclusion of sex created a legal basis for challenging established employment practices.
