The Individual Oral (IO), a one-on-one speaking exam between you and your teacher.

The Purpose of the IO
1. This exam counts for 25% of your final grade in French ab initio.
2. It measures your ability to have a communication authentique (authentic communication) in French.
3. You must show that you can speak spontanément (spontaneously) rather than just repeating a memorized script.
4. The exam helps you demonstrate la pensée critique (critical thinking) by linking a picture to a bigger topic.
5. It is a chance to show your sensibilité culturelle (cultural awareness) regarding French-speaking countries.

Note

The total exam lasts between 12 and 15 minutes.
You also get 15 minutes of private preparation time before the exam starts.
