What Criterion A Assesses

- Criterion A is worth 6 marks.
- It has three strands: the research question, the research methods and the structure of the essay.

| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Name a place, scale and variable in your research question | Ask a broad question about a whole country or a global issue |
| Open with a located, annotated map of the study area | Leave the reader guessing where the study takes place |
| Explain your sampling and site selection so the study can be repeated | Describe methods vaguely, such as "I did a survey" |
| Use informative section headings and label every figure | Group all your graphs together at the end |
| Keep within 4,000 words | Rely on the conclusion fitting into whatever words are left |
