About this video
Learn Biology A1.1.1 in this free IB Biology video lesson for A1.1.1 Water as the medium for life.
The video discusses the significance of water as a medium of life, highlighting its essential functions for living organisms.
Key points include:
Biochemical processes such as glycolysis and cellular respiration occur in water, facilitating metabolic activities.
Water's ability to obtain nutrients like glucose and amino acids from the environment is crucial for sustaining life.
It plays a vital role in removing waste products, primarily carbon dioxide, generated from metabolic reactions.
Ultimately, water sustains life by enabling the release of energy and supporting various life functions, making it indispensable for all living organisms.

00:00Hello everyone, this is Hannah
00:03from Revision Dojo and today
00:05we will be covering syllabus
00:06point A1 point 1 point
00:071. Water as a medium
00:09of life. So essentially what
00:12this syllabus point is, is
00:15it's going to be covering
00:16the basic function of water
00:18and why it is important
00:20for living organisms. Now water
00:23is believed to be a
00:25medium for life. Darwin coined
00:27it
00:28
you refer to life as
00:29having started in a small
00:30pond. Now our belief has
00:33evolved into stating the oceans
00:34as a medium where life
00:35starts. The most important thing
00:38to remember is that water
00:40is a very good spot
00:42for metabolic and essentially all
00:44biochemical processes to take place.
00:47So when a certain volume
00:48of water is isolated by
00:49memory, we get to see
00:51its functions. So the main
00:53ones that we're going to
00:54mention today are four.
00:56The first one being the
00:58biochemical processes. Now these biochemical
01:04processes include glycolysis, cell respiration,
