- Sports, exercise and health science (SEHS - Old)
IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science (SEHS) is a Group 4 subject in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The course examines the science behind human movement, exercise physiology, and health optimization through three key themes: exercise physiology and nutrition of the human body, biomechanics, and sports psychology and motor learning. Students integrate knowledge from biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology to understand human performance, injury prevention, and evidence-based health promotion through both theoretical study and practical investigation.
The course is available at Standard Level (SL, 150 teaching hours) and Higher Level (HL, 240 hours), with first assessment in 2026.
Assessment consists of Paper 1 (multiple-choice questions and data analysis: SL 1 hour 30 minutes, HL 1 hour, 36%), Paper 2 (short-answer and extended-response questions: SL 1 hour 15 minutes, HL 2 hours 15 minutes, 44%), and Internal Assessment (scientific investigation report based on experimental work: maximum 3,200 words with collaborative practical work, 20%). Key changes from the previous curriculum include the removal of Paper 3 for HL students, simplified assessment structure with two external papers for both levels, and increased emphasis on collaborative scientific inquiry and practical investigation skills.
