IB Mathematics Applications & Interpretation (AI) HL Internal Assessment Example

The investigation is clearly structured with a strong introduction, model-by-model development, and a conclusion that is easy to follow.

The student's progression from linear to quadratic to logistic modelling gives the work a coherent mathematical storyline.

Most of the report stays focused on the research question and avoids drifting off-topic.

Some repeated conclusions make the report less concise than it could be.

A few presentation issues, such as awkward graph labelling and a blank final page, reduce the polish of the final product.

The linear-model discussion is weakened by inconsistency between the equation selected and the one later used in calculations.

The student uses a good range of mathematical language, including residuals, RMSE, predicted values, derivatives, and carrying capacity.

Multiple representations are used effectively, including tables, graphs, fit statistics, matrices, and calculus-based analysis.

The communication is usually clear and the reader can follow the purpose of each mathematical step.

Some notation and terminology are inconsistent, especially where variables and labels shift across sections.

A few mathematical values are not communicated consistently, which makes it harder to track the same model throughout the report.

Some appendix formatting and symbol choices reduce clarity slightly.
