IB Mathematics Applications & Interpretation (AI) SL Internal Assessment Example

The student built the exploration around a clear volleyball-focused question, which gives the work purpose and keeps the reader oriented.

The student's structure is easy to follow, with an introduction, development, conclusion, evaluation, references, and appendix.

Most of the content stays relevant to the investigation, and the key data and calculations are placed where the reader can find them.

Some sections are longer than needed, especially the repeated explanations and the large manual-calculation table.

The flow is weakened when the discussion circles back over the same relationship several times instead of moving the argument forward.

A few interpretive passages are too broad or too compressed, which makes the development less sharp than it could be.

The student uses appropriate statistical vocabulary such as correlation coefficient, null hypothesis, contingency table, and p-value.

The student's scatterplot, tables, and displayed formulas give the reader multiple ways to follow the mathematics.

The communication is usually readable and the main steps of the analysis are visible.

Some notation is inconsistent, especially where proportions are described as percentages.

A few mathematical terms are used imprecisely, such as the description of $r^2$ and the language around independence.

There are formatting and substitution issues in the working that reduce confidence in the consistency of the calculations.
