IB Geography HL Internal Assessment Example

The student asks a clearly geographical, testable question with theoretical links to aeolian processes and succession.

The student identifies a precise fieldwork location that is feasible for primary data collection.

The student's maps show a sensible progression from broad to local scale and include key locational information.

The maps are not consistently clear or fully conventioned, so the exact fieldwork area is harder to read than it should be.

The question refers to sand dune formation, but the variables the student measures do not directly capture dune morphology or formation.

A more exact transect start/end point or GPS reference would strengthen the geographic context.

The student uses a systematic transect approach with repeat readings, which is appropriate for studying change across a dune gradient.

The student's methods are relevant to the research question because they include wind speed, vegetation cover, and soil pH.

The student includes practical control steps such as rinsing equipment between readings and averaging results.

The sampling strategy is not explained consistently, especially where random and systematic sampling are both mentioned.

Some method details are missing, such as quadrat size, placement rules, and measurement depth consistency.

The limited number of sites and the short fieldwork period reduce the robustness of the primary data.
