IB Economics HL Internal Assessment Example

Relevant diagrams are included for each commentary and are used to support the argument.

Most diagrams have sensible axes, curves, equilibrium positions, and labels.

The diagrams are integrated into the written explanation rather than being decorative.

Some diagrams contain technical labelling inaccuracies, especially the indirect tax and tariff figures.

A few welfare areas and quantity labels are not fully consistent with the accompanying explanation.

The macroeconomic diagrams would be clearer with more explicit curve-shift labelling and explanation.

The student uses a broad range of relevant economic terminology throughout the commentaries.

The terminology is usually appropriate and supports the analysis rather than appearing as a list of isolated definitions.

The student uses higher-level terms such as allocative efficiency, comparative advantage, consumer surplus, and deadweight welfare loss effectively.

A few terms are used imprecisely, especially in the tax diagram where MSC is shifted instead of supply or private cost.

Some tariff and welfare terminology could be more tightly defined and consistently applied.

The student's writing would be even stronger if they distinguished more carefully between related concepts such as different elasticity measures.
