IB Economics HL Internal Assessment Example

Relevant diagrams are included for each commentary, showing clear intent to use economic models.

The student attempts to use multiple diagram types, including AD-AS, externality, and tariff diagrams, which is appropriate to the article set.

Several diagrams contain significant labelling and interpretation errors, so the visual analysis is not reliably accurate.

The tariff diagrams are especially confused in the way they represent quantities, imports, and welfare areas.

Some written explanations do not match the movements shown in the diagrams, which weakens their usefulness.

The student uses a broad range of relevant economic terminology across the commentary set.

Most of the terminology is recognisably tied to the article themes, making the economic focus clear.

Several key terms are used imprecisely, such as confusing a contraction in quantity demanded with a contraction in demand.

Some terminology creates contradictions, especially around tax incidence and the tobacco market.

A few definitions are overstated or inaccurate, such as treating inelastic demand as meaning consumers will pay any price.
