IB Biology HL Internal Assessment Example

The student placed the investigation in a clear and specific biological context and made the variable being tested understandable.

The student's method includes enough practical detail that another student could broadly follow the investigation.

The student considered several relevant design factors, such as replication, sample preparation, and ripeness classification.

Some of the scientific explanation is imprecise, especially around the exact structural and biochemical changes being investigated.

Several important controls are not justified well enough, such as cultivar, fruit history, and the rationale for sample size.

The procedure still contains ambiguities and a numbering inconsistency that reduce reproducibility.

The student's raw data are organized clearly in tables, which makes the investigation easy to follow before processing.

The student calculates means, standard deviations, and a statistical comparison, so their processing goes beyond simple description.

The temperature trend is communicated consistently and is directly connected to the research question.

Some of the supporting measurements are not sensitive enough to distinguish the conditions properly, especially the glucose-strip results.

The uncertainty treatment is present, but it does not fully capture the larger sources of variation in the investigation.

Parts of the processed data are not presented with enough clarity for the reader to judge the reliability of the pattern easily.
