IB Physics SL Extended Essay Example

The student states a clear research question early and keeps the investigation visibly focused on a physics-based issue.

The student shows some informed planning through the fixed viewpoint, consistent photo setup, and use of image-processing tools.

The student includes relevant variables and a logical overall procedure for collecting observational data.

The method does not fully control important camera and atmospheric variables that affect colour measurements.

The investigation would be more precise if the sky region, exposure settings, and image-analysis region were defined more tightly.

The scope is still broad, which makes it difficult to isolate humidity as the main factor being tested.

The student uses a good range of relevant physics and data-analysis terminology.

The student shows clear awareness of the relationship between light, wavelength, and atmospheric scattering.

The student generally applies the subject content in a way that supports the investigation's purpose.

Some key scientific ideas are stated imprecisely, especially around relative humidity and scattering.

The distinction between brightness, intensity, and value is not handled consistently.

Several explanations would be stronger if the physical mechanisms were described with more precision and less overlap.
