IB Physics SL Extended Essay Example

The student communicated a clear experimental purpose and kept the investigation anchored to a specific measurable relationship.

The student's procedure includes several thoughtful controls, repeats, and a workable measurement approach that supports reproducibility.

The opening and method show that the student understood how to turn a physics idea into a testable investigation.

The student's investigation is generally focused and coherent across the early sections.

The opening focus is not fully consistent, especially where the introduction and research question do not use the same framing.

Some important variables and assumptions are not defined tightly enough, which leaves parts of the investigation slightly ambiguous.

A few methodological choices are well chosen but not fully justified in relation to the final model.

The student uses a good range of relevant electromagnetic and measurement terminology.

The student shows a solid practical understanding of induction, resistance, uncertainty, and graph linearisation.

The student's scientific vocabulary is often appropriate and helps the reader follow the investigation.

The student demonstrates that they can connect the physics ideas to an experimental context.

There are a few important terminology and concept errors, including some imprecise descriptions of fields and constants.

The theoretical explanation is not always fully accurate or carefully phrased.

Some symbols and physical meanings are not consistently distinguished, which can reduce clarity and credibility.
