IB Geography SL Extended Essay Example

The student communicates a clear place-based focus from the start and keeps the investigation anchored to Sopot throughout.

The student's mixed-method design combines mapping with demographic and housing evidence, which is appropriate for this topic.

The research question is specific enough to guide the investigation and shows a clear intended relationship between tourism and urban change.

Some key terms in the question are too broad and would benefit from tighter definition.

The method is not fully transparent about how attractions were selected, classified, and checked for completeness.

One listed technique is not clearly carried through into the analysis, which weakens methodological coherence.

The student shows a good grasp of the topic by linking tourism, demographic change, housing, and urban development.

The student uses relevant geographical terminology such as depopulation, outmigration, ageing population, gentrification, and spatial clustering.

The student's use of demographic evidence becomes convincing when they connect the population pyramid to ageing and natural decrease.

Some sources are too general or weak to support the more important background claims.

A few concepts are applied imprecisely, especially where attraction categories and tourism-related terms overlap.

The student's terminology is mostly accurate, but some definitions and classifications would benefit from greater precision.
